We worked for the developer Heren 2 in partnership with Koning Ellis Architecten to design the complete interior for a newly built hotel in the Houthavens in Amsterdam. The building, designed by architects ZZDP, houses two Marriott hotels with a total of 180 rooms; the young and hip “Moxy” combined with the upgraded “Residence Inn” which aims at guests who stay an extended period of time. In addition to hotels, the building houses a restaurant, gym and spa with pool. On the top floor there will be several meeting rooms and a bar with a fantastic view at the Houthavens. We have realized the complete interior design of the rooms, spa and pool, traffic areas and public spaces of both hotels.
The overall design concept for both hotels refers to the city and to the position in the timber ports. Concrete, wood, leather and coarse fabrics match the industrial and maritime atmosphere. Inside, each hotel has its own concept appropriate for the target audience and brand. The Moxy lobby at the ground floor comes with the famous Dutch DJ’s theme, as a reference to a club or lounge.
For Residence Inn, which is located on the upper floors, we opted for the ‘Dutch light’ theme, as in the works of Vermeer, warm blues combined with aging wood.
The construction of the hotel started in 2016, completion is expected in late 2017.
